D’WAVE Youth

It’s that time of the year again. Christmas parties for high school youth group and junior high youth group on the 22nd and 23rd. All of the sunday school classes have wrapped up. Hope you all had another great year and we can’t wait to start all this craziness over again next year. There is no youth group on the 29th or 30th so have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! See you all next year.

Huh? Well it is only the coolest thing happening at youth group this Christmas season. If you are sitting there, wondering to yourself what we are talking about then pay attention. White Elephant is a gift exchange we do every year around christmas time. Go out and purchase a gift of value no more then $5 or find some random gift around the house that you think some other kid would enjoy. Bring it to youth group on the 22nd for high school or 23rd for junior high. Oh and come dressed appropriatly. That means dress to impress in your best Christmas attire. Maybe wear that sweater your grandmother knitted you back in 6th grade or the Muppets Merry Christmas t-shirt that your dad gave you last year. It is going to be a blast!

Yes, that is right. D’Wave Youth Ministries is a part of social networking. We actually have a facebook group page that people with other facebook’s can check out. It is a great way to see what is going on at youth group but also a way to connect to students in the most growing aspect of their lives. Facebook is a social network where people of all ages can connect or reconnect with past, present and even future friends. We thought about it for a second, “1 Mississippi…” and decided this thing might be good for us. We have videos of some of the events, we have pictures from past events and we even have discussions… sometimes. We want to strengthen that part of the group, but we can’t do that without participation. So if you have a facebook look us up, D’WAVE Youth Ministries.

During the cold months of the winter…oh wait thats not true its 80 degrees outside. Well anywho, during the winter time we have humongous event that happens in Youth group and that is the 30 Hour Famine. It usually happens the last weekend of January or the first weekend of February (whenever that Super Bowl thingy happens). It is a mission event where students fast (optional) for 30 hours and learn about hunger around the world and in our own community. To raise awareness in our community we do mission work throughout the event.

Jr. High Youth group consists of current 6th graders through 8th grade.

High School Youth group consists of current 9th graders through 12th grade.

We meet to play games, sing songs, and spend time in discussion about God’s Word. We are currently wrapping-up a series on the book of Ephesians, talking about what it means to be a christian in a non-Christian world.

Jr. High meets Wednesday’s from 6:30-8:00 p.m.

High School meets Tuesday’s from 7:00-8:30 p.m.

School is back in session but that doesn’t mean the fun has to end! Your youth leaders have some fun things planned for you this semester. Keep a lookout for news coming to a mailbox near you. :]
